PROGRAMS & EXTRACURRICULARS

Student Council

Early Academy at Rise’s Student Council offers an exciting extracurricular opportunity to develop leadership skills and participate in a truly democratic structure! Our Student Council is unique from traditional SGA’s in several key ways. First, we are a non-hierarchical structure, meaning all members have an equal standing and equal power within the organization. Additionally, our Student Council is open to all students regardless of GPA because we believe that all members of our school community should have the opportunity to help transform our institution for the better. Finally, our Council’s systems and structures were developed entirely through the collective efforts of the students themselves. For the past four years, Student Council members have successfully organized events, investigated issues pertaining to the student body, and developed policy proposals for our school.

Ethnic Studies

Early Career Academy at Rise is host to one of our city’s only Ethnic Studies programs! Ethnic Studies allows for a deep and critical look at issues of identity, oppression, and social justice, while focusing special attention on the various racial and ethnic groups that make up the population of Springfield. Our school offers a series of four elective courses that students can take during their time here. These courses provide students the opportunity to explore the realities of life in Springfield through a critical lens, develop and lead their own lessons about topics of injustice and resistance in our world, and engage in collaborative work to understand and address issues of injustice and oppression in our school and broader society.
